Tourism in Aizawl

Aizawl is a beautiful city which is 112 years old and is set up on the ridges of steep hills of the state of Mizoram. Situated at a height of 1132 metres above sea level, the city of Aizawl overlooks the valley of the river Tlawng and the blue hill ranges beyond the valley. Situated on the northern side of Aizawl, the Durtlang Hills are exceptionally beautiful, craggy hills offering a good view of the Aizawl city.

Berawtlang Tourist Complex

Situated 7 kms away from Aizawl, Berawtlang Tourist Complex is a recreational center. Restaurant and tourist cottages are the facilities available here. A number of ceremonial functions and fairs are organised here for tourists. It is also a popular picnic spot in Aizawl.

Mini Zoo

The Mini Zoo in Aizawl is home to many species of animals and birds to be found only in the hills of Mizoram. The endangered sun bear is the major attraction of the zoo.

Paikhai

Pakhai is another quiet and enchanting picnic spot situated at a distance of 16 kms away.

Luangmual Handicrafts Centre

Luangmual Handicarfts Centre is situated 7 Kms away from Aizawl. The Khumbeu ceremonial bamboo hat made of waterproof 'hnahthial' leaves.

A small village situated 18 kms from the Aizawl city, Falkwan portrays the lifestyle, culture and tradition of the Mizo people.

Bara bazar is the primary tourist attraction of Aizawl. It is a popular flea market in Aizawl. Once in Aizawl tourists should always visit Bara Bazar for doing shopping here as the Bara Bazar is the main shopping center in Aizawl having shopping complexes where one will find garments, footwear, ethnic jewellery, handicraft items and other commodities. In Bara Bazar one can see Mizo people at their best traditional costumes selling produces.

Transport in Aizawl

The nearest railway station from Aizawl is in Silchar which is just 184 kms away in Assam and takes around 19 hours.

Foreign tourist need to have ‘Inner Line Permit’ in order to enter the state union. These special permits can be attained from Indian missions abroad and even from the Mizoram government directly and the permits have a certain validity period.
